expense is increasing rapidly due to an aging society. Public
research funds marked for the life sciences alone has reached
an amount over one trillion yen, and expectations of the Japanese
people in regards to this field are rising steadily. In what ways
can we use our country's advanced scientific technology to return
something to the patients, improve medical services, and reduce
the financial burden placed upon our citizens? We are being asked
